Poor Canadian Kid

Yesterday was a pretty ordinary day. That was until Joel found a cardboard box in my bedroom and announced he was going to work on a project. I asked him what he was planning to do with the box, and he replied, "I don't know yet, I have to think about it".

Kezia pulled out her colouring and so her and I did that for a while. Later, I went to see what Joel was up to. He was madly colouring the sides of the box, and then he asked me if I would help him make a steering wheel and a helmet.

"So have you decided what you're making?"

"Well, I think I'm going to make a toboggan".

"Hmmm...what are you going to do with it?"

"I'm going to slide down the hill with it".

"It might be hard to slide down on the grass".

"I'm not going to use it on the grass, I'm going to make a huge pile of snow and slide down it".

"There isn't any snow outside honey".

"I know that Mom, we'll never have snow here, even though it's almost my birthday. Kind of weird, huh?"

"Yeah, it's kind of strange....Do you miss the snow?"

"Not really, it's kinda cold, but I wish I could go tobogganing. So that's why I'm making one so that when we get back to Canada, I can go right away".

"But Joel, when we go back, it'll be summer and there isn't any snow in summer".

"What?! No snow in February...no snow in summer.....How long do I have to wait?".

"It'll come soon enough".
