Baby Shower Fun

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower for Rut and Rafa, who live in the courtyard with us. Their baby girl isn't here yet, but it's American custom to have the baby shower before the baby is born.

I was asked to take care of the shower just a few weeks ago. I was offering to help out and ended up being in charge of it. I was intimidated and flattered all at the same time. How would I have the time and creativity to do this? Wow, my neighbours think I have good speaking and leadership skills?

Rachel and I made the invitations 2 weeks ago, which was fun because I got to make cards all evening! I was sick in the beginning of this week and was worried that I wouldn't get everything done, but by Thursday I was healthy, and I had some pretty good ideas from the internet.

Some of the decorations I put together were:

*a diaper cake
*baby sock rose bouquet
*fruit bouquet
*centerpieces made of books, receiving blankets, blocks (this idea was from my friend Rhonda)
*and of course banners made with my lovely cricut
.
.
The games went over pretty well; we had the identify the unknown baby food, how well do you know your old wives' tales, and can you guess the word baby in a foreign language. As I was preparing for this party, I realized that I have really missed being a hostess. We haven't had families over like we used to just because of space and time. Carl even took time out to help cut up fruit and make the centre pieces because he enjoys putting on parties too. So it was nice to be able to pour all my pent up hospitality into a baby shower. It made me feel good that Rut and Rafa had a nice party and that everyone had a good time.
