Leaving - Days 7&8

The two days that we spent with my family in Calgary were very relaxing. We all slept in until 10 a.m. and didn't get out of our pajamas until 11! We would have liked to lounge around, but my parents who are selling their house, got a call from the realtor that they wanted to show the house at 1 p.m. So we quickly helped my mom tidy up, we hid our suitcases in the closets, piled blankets and extra mattresses on top of each other, hid the dirty dishes in the stove....it was quite funny how we managed to make the place look immaculate.

While the house was being shown we decided to go to the mall because we couldn't be outside. IT WAS STILL RAINING. We wandered around a bit, stopped in a few stores and then I remembered I needed to take the kids to pick out Father's Day cards. At about 1:45 p.m. we headed back to the house for a late lunch. Asha was getting cranky and wanted to sleep.

Once we got back, I quickly gave Asha something to eat and put her to bed. Then the rest of us had lunch. As we were finishing, the doorbell rang. It was the realtor. Apparently she was coming at around 2 and not 1. Groan. So we raced to clear the table and then wandered around awkwardly as she showed the house to a couple. Well, it's not a bother if it means that my parents can sell their house.

Once the boys came home from school, Joel and Kezia were playing and horsing around until supper time. It was great. They love hanging out with their uncles. After supper my mom and I went to a bookstore to meet her friend. The church is buying my parents a wall hanging for a farewell gift and Virginia wanted to show my mom a particular one that she picked out. It was fun to go shopping again; twice in one day. Though it was enjoyable, except getting soaked in the RAIN, I still miss my beloved Target.....

The next day we didn't sleep in as long, but we still just hung out for most of the day. Joel and Kezia read stories with my mom, we practiced our letters, and they played video games to occupy their day. My grandma was going to come in the early afternoon, but her basement flooded because of ALL THE RAIN and she was waiting for the cleaners to come until 3:30. It was kind of disappointing because with such a short time in Calgary this would be our only visit with her. And to compound things, we probably won't be seeing her for a very long time. So when she arrived I wanted to be able to spend the time having a meaningful visit. I also wanted her to spend a bit of time with the kids. I was glad that Carl could sense how important this was because he took pictures of us and encouraged the kids to visit with their great grandma. She stayed for dinner but at 7 she had to leave for a meeting at church. We cleaned up the dishes and tidied up again because there was going to be another showing. My mom said it was ironic that for an entire month there was no one interested in the house and the two days that we come, there's two showings.

My mom and I took the girls back to the mall so we could by something for my new nephew (who we are excited about meeting in a few days) and Carl and my dad took the boys to the park; there was a brief time in the evening where there was no rain. It was almost surreal!

After we got back from the mall, the kids all had some ice cream for a snack, we showed my family Joel's graduation video from preschool and his and Kezia's swimming lessons before bed. Joel and Kezia were upset about having to go to bed, but we told them they'd see them in the morning for breakfast. Yes, the visit was pretty short, but we'll see them in a few weeks when they move closer to us.

That night neither Carl or myself slept very well. Carl felt like he got up countless times and I couldn't fall asleep past 3:30. I kept having dreams that my friend was having her baby and I'd wake up and swear my stomach hurt. What a night to be sleepless one.
